The Blue Bathroom

I feel that bathrooms are inherently boring, but we do spend time in them. For that reason, I wanted a zippy and eye catching bathroom. I love the blue in the downstairs bathroom. Blue is a serene color, like gray. Color is powerful and I read years ago how to use color to create excitement or calm. For this reason, I associate certain colors with certain rooms; if used improperly, color can be unsettling.

I am not a big fan of towel racks because towels are not artful to me personally. Thus, I removed all the towel racks years ago. Instead, I prefer to put interesting art where the gleaming silver towel rack with messy and finger squashed towels would be hanging. I recall that I learned about removing towel racks years ago by reading a decorating magazine or watching a professional decorator on TV. Brilliant!

The three simple black and white ceramic pieces draw the eye to themselves instead of to the functional toilet, shower or sink. Expensive bathroom fixtures can be artful, but we did not invest in them. We did, however, at the recommendation of our relator, have all the vanities painted white to give them an updated look.

Before I started cleaning to put the house on the market, the three simple black and white ceramic pieces were arranged differently. But in the dusting process, one fell off of the wall and nearly crushed my left big toe. As a result, I have lost interest in the pieces and arranging them properly. Also, from this experience, I will not be bringing this art to our new place. But I have enjoyed it for the better part of the two years that we have owned it.
