Waiheke Island Wine Tasting

After disembarking from the ferry, the group met Steve from Ananda Tours. The original agenda had 4 wine tastings and 1 olive oil tasting. However, the group did not stop at a 4th vineyard and instead opted for a fantastic and leisurely lunch at a superb restaurant.

First Wine Tasting: Kennedy Point set the tone for the day. We toured the vineyard and tasted some of their amazing Syrah. A few of us inquired about shipping a case to the U.S. The Syrah made such an impression on us. None of us, however, ended up buying any, as far as I know. The shipping costs nixed that idea.

Second Wine Tasting: The group toured the tasting room at Cable Bay. Our guide mentioned that at this particular vineyard, Justin Timberlake rented a room overlooking the bay for a private party. We walked through that room and I imagined the party.

True tasters spit, but the group -including me – decided to drink instead and created an impromptu happy hour chatting over several tastings. I enjoyed the Pinot Noir. Thank goodness for the olive oil tasting before arriving at this winery.

Third Wine Tasting: By the third wine tasting, the group needed food. Our stop in the Mudbrick tasting room was short. I cannot really say if the wine was good or not. I needed to eat!
