Hotel Inspection of Novotel Queenstown

On our third morning in New Zealand, shortly after breakfast, the group boarded a flight from Auckland to Queenstown. From the airport to downtown Queenstown is only 5 miles and the most scenic drive from any airport into which I have flown. On the way from the airport, the bus driver pointed out the mountains where the Lord of the Rings trilogy was filmed.

Queenstown is small and vibrant. People come to Queenstown for sports: hunting, fishing, snow skiing, hang gliding, etc. Queenstown reminded me of many towns in Colorado which have been successful making money attracting sportsmen because of its rugged beauty and its ability to successfully market to them. Queenstown is the outdoors and its proud of it. However, Queenstown did have a Louis Vuitton and apparently another store with $600 sweaters, according to a person in our group who was shopping for his significant other.

While we were waiting for our rooms to be ready, we toured our hotel, the Novotel Queenstown which was in downtown Queenstown near the water. The rooms were neatly appointed and functional. The lobby was clean with a lot of natural light. I felt, after viewing the other hotels which were farther away from downtown and more clunky, that the tour operator picked the best Queenstown hotel for me personally. In the scenic photo in the slideshow above, our hotel is directly behind the collection of bright orange cotton ball shaped trees along the shore and pedestrian boardwalk.
