My first day in Queenstown I ran between 3-5 miles in the woods, along the water, and later along the road. In hindsight, a running partner would have mitigated a lot of the anxiety I had while being all alone in such a remote area.
I ran the Sunshine Bay Walk to Sunshine Bay.
I recall, one dog that looked like a coyote whose owner did not appear until I had picked up a rock ready to fight it off, a solo male hiker, only 2 passing cars on the highway after I got off of the trail, and one stopped car with 2 male teenagers leaning against its hood, staring up towards me farther up the hill, that I did not dare pass them; and finally, they drove off.
The scenery was beautiful, but I would not run a similar area alone ever again because my heart raced from fear throughout most of the run and I did not enjoy it.
