As far as touristy things in Ireland, I enjoyed this one a lot. I had heard about kissing the Blarney Stone, but had never learned why people wanted to kiss it.
Supposedly, after kissing the Blarney Stone, a person is given the gift of eloquence in speech. Who would not want to be an eloquent speaker? Most of us need help in this area. Why not kiss the Blarney Stone?
Let’s just say, kissing the Blarney Stone is exhilirating and scary. The germs from other people’s lips were the least of my concern. To kiss the Blarney Stone, we needed to lie prostrate several stories up on in the Blarney Castle and dangle the top half over our torso, head first down the castle wall, to eventually and rather quickly pucker our lips and smack it. The entire time an employee of the castle held our torso, waist and/or hips. What a great job for him, I thought.
My moment of kissing the stone was very brief. Next time I will do what a few others did and linger with the big open mouth pucker.
