Muckross House is an enormous manison. My first impression of it reminded me of the Newport Mansions in Newport, Rhode Island.
I grew up in New England which is rich in history. My father’s mother loved history and my father loves history. I also love history. I am lucky to have a husband who enjoys history.
Muckross House is rich in history. We toured the house with a monotone tour guide who appeared to be fulfilling her job requirements rather weakly. As Alan put it, she had an annoying voice and neither of us could feel the love (ha, ha). She had memorized a lot of facts that she spat out quickly.
A person interested in old furniture and where the Americans who bought this property bought their furniture would be interested in the Muckross House tour. I may have liked the tour better if we had a more passionate tour guide with some geniune excitement for what she was saying.
The grounds of the Muckross House were varied and well-maintained. I walked the grounds as best as I could before I had to return to the bus. I would have liked more time at this location to enjoy the hiking trails, the arboretum, greenhouse and flower gardens. For people who do not want to walk the property, horse drawn carriages are available for hire.
I would return to Muckross on a gorgeous sunny day, skip the interior home tour, and spend time writing, reading and relaxing on a blanket in the lush green grass near the greenhouse and modern sculptures at the back of the property or on the expansive lawn to the right of the front door.
