The granite and an old door are installed

The 2nd week that we had the house under contract, it got more and more exciting. I started playing with paint outside the house with my interior decorator and the builder…and voilĂ , the granite was installed. The fireplace surround and hearth, and the kitchen and bathroom cabinets are topped with polished black granite.

The builder selected a polished black granite before we got involved in the project. We had a honed black granite in our suburbia house. The honed black granite is not shiny and reminded me of chemistry lab tables in high school. I like both the honed black granite and the polished black granite for their modern look and feel.

On another note, I love old doors. The door leading from the living room into the living room sun porch is at least 50 years old, real wood, untempered glass and has so much character. “They just don’t make doors like they used to,” we all said at some point: the builder, the carpenter and I. We all share an appreciation for old doors. Alan didn’t care either way as long as the dog door fit.
