San Antonio Weekend Preview

San Antonio Riverwalk

San Antonio Riverwalk

Retirement is about changing things up. This past week I have been working on my blog, getting it started. I enjoy writing, so a blog is perfect for me! But, I realize, my life is more than blogging. Thank goodness, we have a trip to San Antonio planned for this weekend.

When I look at changing things up, I think about the intellectual, emotional, spiritual and physical. Right now, my intellectual interests are blogging and taking classes at Austin Community College; my emotional interests are maintaining healthy relationships with friends and family, and hanging out with my dogs; my spiritual interest is yoga; and my physical interest is running.

This weekend, I will be fulfilling my emotional and physical interests! When we head to San Antonio, we will be meeting up this afternoon with a close friend of mine from when we worked at Arthur Andersen together. I am excited to catch up with her and her husband and see her two little boys! For dinner tonight, we will eat at Paesano’s with a couple of our Austin friends who run with us. On Sunday, we participate in the 2009 Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Half-Marathon!

If you read my blog about blogging, I drew an analogy between blogging and running. This weekend I am changing things up from blogging my half-marathon to running my half-marathon!

Race day is exciting. Alan and I have been preparing for this day since mid-July. We will have fun today, during the race (really!) and after we have finished it mid-morning tomorrow. We will enjoy the after race celebrations with all of the running buddies we can find after the race! We stay over tomorrow night to “live it up in San Antonio” as best as we can on tired legs. We planned a nap, so anything is possible!

I highly recommend joining an organized athletic group and doing an event. You have a lot of choices – running, cycling, triathlon, walking, tennis, rowing – whatever you like to do and can do in your hometown! Our organized athletic group is Rogue Running.

Change things up!!! Enjoy your weekend!!!
